A chicken in every pot and Internet in every house. If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times: The internet has now become a mandatory utility needed for business and civic engagement in today's society.  Unfortunately, the status of internet importance has surpassed the availability of fast, reliable, and affordable internet for everybody.  For many, they need it but they can't get it. In other words, we have put the cart before the horse. This discrepancy is what we down on the ol' techno farm call 'the digital divide'.  There is some hopeful news on the horizon to deal with this. Pennsylvania has received over $1,000,000,000, (yes - that's  BILLION) dollars to close the 'digital divide'. Overseeing this massive plan is the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. Great moments in Internet security - who knew?

In my last post, I mentioned distributing flyers about all the great stuff we offer at your local CareerLink®. My goal was to get the word out that we are MORE than just a place you have to go when you are unemployed. Stay tuned, more historical characters will e tossing in their two cents worth of cyber security wisdom soon. Who knew these concepts are over a hundred ye...
Just when I thought the 'February blah's' had started to take their toll, a glorious gift was bestowed upon me - 12 spankin' new Dell computers for my classroom! Yessiree bob - the old tower computers have been retired, along with their 'retro' Windows 8 and MS Office 2016 software. (good by old friends, you have served us well). In their place are tiny little Dell OptiPlex computers, sporting Windows 10 (not ready to test Windows 11 yet) and the newest MS Office apps. Obviously, we are wired up to fast ethernet connection to cruise the light fantastic on the internet. Now you may say "ok Scott, that is groovy and all. But why should I be doing a jig about this?" Well, my amigo's, although I would never dis my own virtual presentations, sometimes you need hand-on instruction to learn certain technical skills. Try learning to play a guitar by watching videos and not HAVING a guitar. Get it? If you need some basic computer or internet skills, want to...
